Hello, beautiful people; I hope this new year has been treating you well! Today is my birthday, and what better way to celebrate it than by posting a blog on my website!
We are a month into 2022 (or month 25 of 2020), and time feels like it’s been flying. Right before the year started, we lost the late, great Betty White. I’ve never had a celebrity death affect me on an emotional level. With Betty White, I think my deep love of Golden Girls, and Rose being a strong, sassy woman I adored, made this REALLY difficult for me. On what was to be her centennial birthday, many people around the country donated to animal shelters, zoos, and other local animal reserves. I don’t think she would have wanted it any other way.
Have you, or anyone you know, posted “New Year New Me” on social media? I didn’t see a single one of those this year. Maybe people are just done with this putting on appearances and are actually doing something for a change. That, or maybe we are all just very tired and just trying to survive at this point. Yeah… That sounds much more likely. For me, it’s trying to do more “New Year, New Career!” Whether I’m able to 100% commit to voice over full time, or just find a new day job where I don’t feel useless/unwanted, I really need a change.
Speaking of new jobs, how many of you are participating in The Great Resignation? Personally, I think this movement is long overdue. Screw the whole “loyalty” BS with companies that don’t show any respect for their employees. Everyone should be paid a living wage without having to working 60 hours a week. No one should be required to pursue higher education unless they want to go into a certain career field or go above and beyond for a much higher salary. Those who do choose to pursue a higher education shouldn’t have to take on so much debt for their education, they’ll never be able to afford a home!
Even now, buying a home seems like a lofty goal, and my husband and I both have well-paying jobs. Still having goals is important! What are some of your goals for the year? Short term, long term, practical, or crazy! I want to do more coaching sessions! I want to see a coach at least once a month to work on different things, mostly my tone (I like to go up at the end of sentences, apparently). I’m going to finish up and post my first demo. With my first demo comes all the marketing responsibilities of pursuing voice over as a career! With my current day job, marketing (in theory) should be easy to do (given my current amount of “free time” at work) and give me an outlet in a job I otherwise would not. My one, silly short-term goal is to cut my hair. “Why is that a goal,” I hear you say. Because I haven’t had a real hair cut since 2019. I’ve had two trims but nothing more than that. I’m due for a new hair style! One crazy long-term goal I have is to make $10,000 in voice over this year. “Why is that so crazy,” I hear you say. I work about 44 hours a week and only have so much time left over in the day to do voice over. What time I do have has other responsibilities, let alone the lack of energy I often have after working all day. I want to be able to commit more time to it, but, in order to do that, I want to make sure I can make the money to justify the time commitment.
I have a couple of projects coming up on YouTube and TikTok; I can’t wait to show you all! They’re mostly going to be gaming and voice acting related (surprise, surprise).
My last goal I want to share with you all, and I hope you do it too, is to be nicer to myself. This year’s moto is “Be Like Betty.” Less conflict, less negative thoughts. I’m even trying to share less negative, reactionary content on social media with friends and, instead, just focus things that bring joy. I would encourage you to try this as well!
Thank you all for reading this month’s blog. I hope you have a wonderful day! And with that, I’ll leave you with the immortal words of Betty White herself:
“Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.” Go leave your footprints!
Cheers!
Ghosty
Good job, great goals. Living with passion is definitely the answer to being happy. It’s not always easy to do but is the greatest variable in producing a satisfying life.
